2010-03-27 11:41 | "And then, you remembered."

Years later, I wake up, and remember that I post things here sometimes.

This past winter was spent dealing with depression, which is generally trying to kill me.  I've also become a manager again, of people in another country.  Busy times.

In the middle of all that, it's really hard to focus on feminist (and other -ist) stuff, because… you know.  Busy as hell.  But, I have no intention of castigating myself for not being 100% on top of all things.  That way lies madness.  Uh, further madness.

Anyways.

First off, I have made a new wiki.  Yes, I make new wikis like breathing, but this one's different-ish, in that I actually expect others to use it.

TexTube: "TexTube is about transcribing web videos and podcasts for the benefit of those who can't see or hear the media, for whatever reason at all. Join up and start sharing!"

You can see my post about it at Shakesville.

I have not had enough time to do anything much with it.  But, I've gotten permission from the fine folk at Feministe to use transcripts they've posted — credit to transcriptionists is part of the page template — so that's a big help already.

And now, it's time for links.

* Thomas of Yes Means Yes Blog guest-posted at Feministe, to post about rapists and statistics: Predator Theory.  Harriet Jacobs of Fugitivus posted a building-on post here.

I am suddenly deeply thankful that I do not spend time around people who make those kinds of jokes.

* Delia Christina at Bitch PhD talks about poor people and nutrition, and what middle-class folk ought to know about this before we start talking about it at all.

* I love Tiger Beatdown beyond my capacity for rational thought.  Sady posts about the movie (500) Days of Summer:

"(500) Days of Summer is, to be brief, the story of Joseph Gordon-Levitt meeting, kissing, fucking, and continuing to fuck Zooey Deschanel, whilst Zooey Deschanel tells Joseph Gordon-Levitt continuously that he is Not Her Boyfriend. Then she says the fucking has to cease, and she seems not to feel too bad about that, and he is like, "BUT I AM YOUR BOYFRIEND!!!???" And she is like, no you're not. And then he is sad.

"We are encouraged to infer, from this series of events, that Zooey Deschanel is LITERALLY A MONSTER.

* The Goddess of Java at The Polyamorous Misanthrope writes about poly parenting 101.  I have spoken with my partner about where I'd like to live, cultural-climate-wise, when we get around to having a kid.  I am pleased that most of what we talked about fits in with that post.

* Greta Christina posts an open letter to believers:

"It is difficult to avoid the observation that, whenever believers give advice to atheists on how to run our movement, it is always in the direction of telling us to be more quiet, to tone it down, to be less confrontational and less visible. I have yet to see a believer advise the atheist movement to speak up more loudly and more passionately; to make our arguments more compelling and more unanswerable; to get in people's faces more about delicate and thorny issues that they don't want to think about; to not be afraid of offending people if we think we're right. I have received a great deal of advice from believers on how atheists should run our movement… and it is always, always, always in the direction of politely suggesting that we shut up.

"You'll have to forgive me if I question the motivation behind this advice, and take it with a grain of salt."

You can clearly see that these two paragraphs can fit in with nearly any privileged/oppressed pairing.

I've made a note to myself that the next coming-out day, I'll come out as an atheist.  I mean, I'm out already, to anyone who (is not in a position to harm me and) asks, but still.
